What results are teams seeing with audience planning?

Content as a Catalyst

With Alli, PMG shifted from offer-led ads to a content-led, full-funnel approach that introduced people to New Scientist's journalism before asking them to subscribe. Six new channels, including YouTube, Meta, and Apple Search Ads, were added, with investment moving toward what curious audiences engaged with most.

5Global Markets at Launch

With Alli, PMG built Peloton's growth audience from live signals, including Experian and Amazon purchase data, and brought more than 110 partners into one dashboard. Teams could manage frequency and shift spend between always-on reach and moments like the Las Vegas Grand Prix in real time instead of reconciling regional reports by hand.

1.8BCampaign impressions

With Alli, PMG defined this audience, "the Protectors," from how they actually behave online. The "McAfee+ is Like…" campaign used simple analogies, like a lie detector for scam protection, across streaming, social, and audio, and Alli Creative Insights scored each version during the eight-week run.

34%Higher Cost Effectiveness Than Benchmark

With Alli, PMG defined the audience from how plumbers actually spend their time, then turned seven hero videos into 63 ad versions for addressable TV, CTV, and trade social. Alli Creative Insights scored every version, and Alli Alerts flagged pacing issues so spend could move to what worked.

The challenge

Why is it so hard to know who your audience is today?

Each platform sees a slice of your customer, research ages fast, and the tracking behind your targeting keeps losing signal.

  • Stale research

Personas describe the customer at the time of the study, so the plan targets someone who has moved on.

  • Platforms that see a slice

Each platform’s audience tool covers its own users and nothing else.

  • Reach you can’t forecast

Budget goes to a channel before anyone knows whether the audience can scale there.

  • Creators you find late

The voices that shape an audience change faster than the planning cycle.

  • Signal loss

Browser restrictions leave conversions uncounted, so platforms optimize on partial data.

  • Thin segments

A segment is too thin to plan around, and each new data partner means a new contract and integration.

In action

See the audience system in action

Seven moments from the system, each shown by the decision it improves.

Plan for the customer you have today · Alli Audience Planner

Plan for who your customer is this week, not who they were last spring.

A Live Persona updates as behavior changes, bringing streaming, social, commerce, creator, and professional signals into one view.

What it’s worth

Targeting rests on evidence you can inspect, because every trait comes with the share of the audience that has it and how much more likely they are than average.

Read the signals together · Alli Audience Planner

Tell the broad trait from the sharp one before you build the targeting.

A trait most of the audience shares is context. A smaller share with a high index is what sets the audience apart, and the persona shows both.

What it’s worth

Teams spend targeting and creative effort on what is distinctive about the audience, not on what describes everyone.

Forecast reach before you spend · Alli Audience Planner

Know where your audience can scale before you pick the channel.

Compare estimated reach for a persona across platforms, and use reach curves to forecast how a segment will scale.

What it’s worth

Media planners put budget where the audience can grow, and skip channels where it can’t.

Find the voices that matter · Alli Audience Planner

Partner with the creators your audience is already following, before everyone else notices.

Creator signals show which people and communities shape the audience, and reach curves show which voices are scaling now.

What it’s worth

Creator choices come from audience evidence, and creative teams know which voices and cultural moments the persona is paying attention to.

Talk to the persona · Ask Alli

Pressure-test the idea with your audience before a dollar of media is committed.

Chat with a published persona through Ask Alli and ask how it would react to a new hook. Answers draw on the signals behind it.

What it’s worth

Weak ideas get caught in a conversation instead of in a launch.

Keep the signal flowing · Alli Audience Gateway

Keep conversions counted when browser tracking falls short.

Audience Gateway captures site events on the server and sends them to each platform’s Conversions API, on managed infrastructure that handles API changes for you.

What it’s worth

Platforms optimize on a fuller picture of what converted, and engineers stay on product work. Server-side tracking supports your consent and privacy processes and doesn’t replace them.

Add the data you’re missing · Alli Datasources

Add a partner capability for this quarter’s plan without starting a new integration project.

Marketplace apps run on your own Alli data and turn a customer list into privacy-safe audience insights. Datasources keeps platform and first-party data arriving.

What it’s worth

A thin segment gets deeper signals without a new contract, login, and pipeline for each vendor, and the result feeds straight into Audience Planner.

Every Alli audience product runs on the same data foundation, with role-based access and managed infrastructure.

Your options

How does Alli compare to other ways of finding audiences?

Survey research and platform tools

  • A snapshot from the study, or one platform’s users
  • Reach forecasting is manual
  • Testing an idea means a new study

Customer data platforms and tracking builds

  • Current for customers you already know
  • One integration per platform for engineers to maintain
  • Not built to test ideas or forecast reach

Alli for Audiences

  • Live, across streaming, social, commerce, creators, and professional networks
  • Reach compared side by side before spend
  • One managed server-to-server integration across four platforms

Many teams keep a customer data platform alongside Alli. It manages the customers you have, and Alli shows where your audience is heading.

Alli for Audiences FAQ

How Alli helps teams know who matters and reach them as signals change, with their experts in charge.

  1. What is Alli for Audiences?

Alli for Audiences is a connected set of Alli products for knowing who matters and reaching them. Audience Planner builds Live Personas and forecasts reach, Audience Gateway sends first-party conversion signals to ad platforms, Datasources brings data in automatically, and Marketplace adds vetted partner apps. All of it runs on one Alli data foundation.

  2. What is a Live Persona?

A Live Persona is an audience profile that updates as real behavior changes, instead of a document built once from research. It combines signals from streaming, social, commerce, creator, and professional platforms with your first-party insights. In Alli you can compare its reach, chat with it, share it, and carry it into planning.

  3. How do you plan audiences when third-party cookies and tracking are fading?

Combine current behavioral signals with first-party data you collect yourself. Audience Planner builds personas from current cross-platform behavior and your first-party insights, and Audience Gateway sends first-party conversion signals server to server, so platforms still receive a usable picture of what converted. Consent and privacy processes stay with your team.

  4. Are Alli personas made up by AI?

No. Ask Alli gives the persona a voice, but the persona itself is built from real behavioral and platform signals, calibrated across video, audio, social, commerce, creator, and professional data, along with your first-party insights. Every trait comes with an audience share and an index, so you can see the evidence behind it.

  5. How is Audience Planner different from a customer data platform?

A customer data platform manages data about the customers you already know. Audience Planner shows how audiences behave across platforms, where they’re moving, which segments can scale, and which signals should shape media and creative. A CDP is built for who your customers were. Audience Planner looks for where they’re going next. Many teams use both.

  6. What is server-side tracking, and do we still need the pixel?

Server-side tracking sends conversion events from your server straight to an ad platform’s Conversions API, so browser restrictions and ad blockers affect it less. Platforms often recommend running it alongside the pixel, with events matched so they aren’t counted twice.

  7. Does Audience Gateway make our tracking privacy compliant?

No tool does that alone. Audience Gateway is designed for privacy-first measurement, using first-party data and managed infrastructure built to support regional privacy requirements. It doesn’t replace your consent management or legal review. It gives your privacy and legal teams a more controlled way to govern what is collected and where it is sent.

  8. How do Marketplace apps use our audience data?

Marketplace apps run on clean, connected data from your Alli foundation, so they don’t need a separate pipeline. Partner apps are built with privacy in mind. For example, an audience app can work with hashed data and return aggregated insights rather than personal information.

  9. Who can use Alli for Audiences?

Alli is available to PMG clients. Strategists, media planners, creative teams, B2B marketers, and the engineering and privacy teams who maintain tracking use the same platform PMG’s experts use, so both sides work from the same personas and data.
